When FTN was on the outs and all of the members were off pursuing other interests, my buddy let me borrow his Tascam 4-track to mess around with. I began making a lot of crude multi-track cassette recordings of different ideas and riffs with the effects pedals that I had picked up at the local pawn shop (lots of flange and overdrive).
These were my first recordings in which I overdubbed myself playing guitar along to bass lines I had laid down prior. These rough tracks got me hooked on multi-tracking and I began incorporating this method into my song writing process in the following years. This was also my first introduction into the world of recording (note the extremely blown out levels that are just held in place by the tape compression).
